Jaguar Land Rover has announced record sales for 2012, selling 357,773 vehicles, up 30%. JLR market sales were driven in particular by strong market performances from the UK, China and the US.

It is particularly good news for Solihull (Land Rover) facility, where JLR is planning to add 800 new jobs and has recently confirmed a GBP370m investment programme.

With support from the Government's Regional Growth Fund, it's a clear demonstration of where the Government, working in partnership with the private sector can make a real difference to the UK economy."

This record breaking year for JLR in such a time of economic hardship shows that a competitive business model, good investment plans and an efficient use of public-private partnerships are what is needed to have good economic results.

I am fighting against budget cuts in transport research at the European level as large-scale investments in smart greener transport R&D projects contribute to good business results such as those of JLR.
