Victory looms for Lib Dem bid to scrap mobile phone roaming rip-off

Phil Bennion has hailed a move by an EU Commissioner to end the 'roaming rip-off' of extra charges on mobile phones and downloads abroad.

Extra charges for mobile phone calls and texts made abroad but within the EU have been steadily falling as the law is tightened, but now Lib Dem MEPs and a Lib Dem European Commissioner, Neelie Kroes, have announced a plan to outlaw them completely by 2015.

JLR jobs bonanza highlights benefit of getting EU legislation right

Jaguar Land Rover's announcement of 1,700 new jobs for Solihull and a £1500 million investment in aluminium-based production for future cars highlights the importance of getting EU legislation right, says Lib Dem MEP Phil Bennion.

JLR's shift to a hi-tech all-aluminium vehicle architecture follows a long-running campaign by Lib Dem MEPs to amend the EU's Electro-Magnetic Fields Directive.

Groundwork’s training of young people ‘inspiring and effective’

Phillip Bennion MEP has praised the ‘inspiring and effective’ training and environmental projects with young people run by Groundwork West Midlands after a visit to the charity’s HQ in Tipton.

On Friday September 6th, the Black Country Lib Dem MEP met regional director Jon Cotgreave and staff involved with a range of projects helping young people, some from very challenging backgrounds, to gain skills and confidence to join the labour market.
