I am particularly concerned that human rights and democracy across the world are under threat, as other great powers such as China undermine democratic governments and prop up dictators. The liberal world order of free speech and democracy is under assault and the EU needs to take a more robust approach in standing up for its own values. 

I am seeking to take the leading role in formulating the EP response to the illiberal forces across the world which seek to ban political opposition and kerb freedom of speech.
