Wolverhampton and West Midlands MEP Phil Bennion is backing a call by city Lib Dems to build a BMX track in Lanesfield, Wolverhampton.
Phil met Lib Dem Focus team campaigners at the site at the back of Hilton Hall on Hilton Road on Wednesday August 7th, where he handed over a letter showing his formal support for its construction.
Phil Bennion said: "A BMX track would encourage young people to take part in what is now a recognised Olympic Sport.
"If planning permission is given and I sincerely hope it will be, the people of Wolverhampton will have an Olympic legacy they can be proud of."
Springvale Ward Focus campaigner Tom Stokes has been working hard over recent months to promote the scheme and keep local residents updated on progress, having invited over 60 residents to public consultations that were held at Hilton Hall.
The proposed BMX track already has the backing of West Midlands Police, local ward councillors and now Phil Bennion MEP.
Tom Stokes said: "If approval for the track is given, after a site inspection in September, construction can start straight away. The track should be in use well before the end of this year.
"The response I have had from local residents is overwhelming. So many parents want something that their children can do in a safe, local environment. This is exactly what the people of Springvale want and need".
